O2 Employees Sacked For Reselling iPhones Bought With Staff Discount

in

About half a dozen O2 employees in London were fired recently with 20 more under investigation for using their O2 staff discount to purchase iPhones with the intention of reselling them. Staff at O2 are given a 20% discount on all handsets offered by the network, and some of these employees attempted to use this for their own profit by purchasing several iPhones, which they would later resell on eBay.

"It is actually nothing new that staff in mobile phone shops have supplemented income with this abusive perk," said one industry source. "What is fresh is that O2 is cracking down on the practice in a sign that mobile firms are no longer prepared to turn a blind eye. The iPhone is an iconic product for O2 and it makes sense to start there, but I predict that we will see this spread across the sector. The days when this kind of scam could be ignored are over."

Oh dear. Still, a bit harsh methinks.
