No Beetles On iTunes, But Maybe A New iPod And iTunes Ringtones
Silicon Alley Insider reports that Apple might not be introducing the Beatles on iTunes as many suspected, but instead may take the opportunity to introduce iPhone ringtones to the store. They claim to have a "well-informed source" who supplied the information. The source suspects the lineup will most likely consist of:
• A new iPod, which may or may not be distinct from a new touch-screen device -- essentially an iPhone that doesn't make phone calls.
• A new feature for iPhone users that will allow them to make ringtones out of songs they've already purchased from iTunes. This is a long-overdue step for the digital music business, which has found itself in the weird position of selling complete digital songs for a dollar but 15-second ringtone snippets of the same songs for $2.50. One caveat: songs from Universal Music, which is in a pissing match with Apple over pricing and other issues, won't be available.

I think Apple would be better off by allowing users to purchase the ringtone service on a monthly or yearly basis. Charge $5 dollars a month or something for 10 ringtones. They could also offer an unlimited number for a higher price. I am anxious to see if this rumor is true and how exactly Apple is gonna go about the ringtone issue.
