Next iPhone To Have Touch Sensitive Back Plastic Case?
The next iPhone might be half Magic Mouse, according to Bloomberg analyst Robert Chen. He says that the next iPhone will not only have a touch-sensative screen on the front of the device, but will also have a multitouch surface on the back of the device as well, implemented in a similar way to Apple’s Magic Mouse, which replaces mechanical buttons with a multitouch surface across the top of its plastic shell.
He doesn’t give any evidence of it to be the case, which isn’t outrageously unusual, but he doesn’t offer any thoughts on how it would be implemented or what sorts of things users would use it for, either. It seems unlikely that it would replace physical controls, such as the sleep/wake button or volume controls in the case of the iPhone, so we’re really not sure what it would be for.
He also said that it would appear “as early as June”, and would have a 5 megapixel camera.
He also said that significant advancements would also be made in the software of the device. “Apple’s going to put a lot of innovation, not just on the hardware, but also on the software of the new iPhone,” said Chen, without commenting on what those would be. It’s not surprising, as we assumed Apple would be doing neat things with software anyway. What we don’t know is what those things will be.
