Mophie To Launch An iPhone Credit Card Reader At CES
Software developer Mophie announced its intention to enter the mobile payment market on Thursday by unveiling details of a credit card reader peripheral for the iPhone. When released, the device will allow users “complete financial transactions on the go.”
The device will ship with a companion iPhone application to handle the payment and, unlike some current peripherals, is designed to remain attached to the iPhone for long periods of time, resting flush with the iPhone’s casing. It’s unclear as to whether the Mophie reader will tap into existing payment systems or arrive with its own separate infrastructure, much like competitor Square.
Additional details such as pricing, technical requirements and vendor licensing information is expected at CES next week and Mophie has yet to announce plans for a similar device for Apple’s iPod touch.
