iPod VP To Step Down From Apple

Tony Fadell, the VP of Apple’s iPod division and the man behind the mini-hard drive music player, will soon be stepping down from his position and leaving the company, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. The report indicates that Fadell is to be replaced by former IBM exec Mark Papermaster.

Speculation suggests Papermaster has been chosen for the job due to his position at IBM. Jobs’s acquisition of PA Semi suggests that he is hiring him for his experience and expertise with the POWER architecture that the PowerPC chips run on.

We’ll be sad to see Fadell go. He was the main man behind the creation of the iPod, the saving product of Apple, and played a large role in the birth of the iPhone as well. It’s not yet known if he will stay on as an advisor after he leaves.
