iPhoneDevCamp To Take Place Today
Today marks the beginning of the much awaited iPhone Developers Camp set to take place this weekend from Friday, July 6th to Sunday the 8th. I don't know about any of you, but I'm pretty excited to see what innovation and collaboration comes of it.
For those of you still unfamiliar with it, iPhoneDevCamp is essentially a BarCamp-style gathering of web 2.0 developers for the purpose of collaboration with others in the field and creating and sharing new development techniques for the iPhone platform in a free-form collaborative environment.
The event was spearheaded by Raven Zachary, a technology analyst with he 451 Group and an iPhone user (he clocked in at good 9 hours waiting for the iPhone). It was put together in just a short three weeks by him, as well as five other organizers, including BarCamp founder Chris Messina.
"The Friday after the WWDC [Apple's Worldwide Developer's Confrence], I was sitting on my deck and thinking about how we could encourage an iPhone development community to spring up," Zachary said for PCWorld, "And I thought we should organize a BarCamp-style camp."
Mr. Zachary is optimistic for the event, and he thinks it will be a success. He estimates a good turn out for the event, both in people and iPhones. He expects to draw 300 developers, designers, and testers over the course of the weekend.
Said Mr. Zachary, "It's going to be the largest gathering of iPhone owners--we'll probably have at least 150 iPhones in the same room. [...] The focus is on developers, designers, and testers," says Zachary in regards to the event's structure, "It'll be a great place for them to learn and work with their peers. [Participants] will work in teams over the weekend to build and launch applications for the iPhone."
The event will be held at 6pm at Adobe Systems, 601 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA, 94103 (see it on Google Maps).
