iPhone Outsells Other Smartphones in July

According to iSuppli, the iPhone outsold all other smartphones during the month of July. During that time, the iPhone accounted for 1.8% of all cellular handset sales in the U.S. Sales of the iPhone were higher than Research In Motion, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, and Palm's Foleo, said iSuppli. In the feature phone sector, iPhone sales were equal to that of LG's Chocolate.
iSuppli classifies the iPhone as a crossover phone that has both the functionality of a smartphone, as well as features which are shared by feature phones, such as LG's Chocolate. Although iPhone does not officially support third-party applications, it seems to be competing well in both spaces.
Most of those purchasing the iPhone in July are 35-year old males with four year college degrees. Of those who purchased the device, 25% of them switched to AT&T from another carrier.
iSuppli is maintaining its estimate that Apple will sell 4.5 million iPhones by the end of this year and 30 million by 2011.
