iPhone OS 3.1 Beta 2 Breaks Tethering Hack

Those of you on AT&T's network that have decided not to wait for AT&T to offer a legitimate tethering solution and modified your IPCC files to enable tethering on your devices might not want to get too comfortable just yet. TUAW reports that the OS 3.1 beta 2 that was just released to developers breaks the tethering hack. This means that after OS 3.1 hits, you won't be able to tether on AT&T's network without their permission. Hopefully they will announce tethering plans soon, but don't hold your breath.

You tried using help.benm.at? Worked on my dad's 3G, friend's 3G, my 3G, and my 3GS. I did every single one of them and didn't have any problems.

Well that's one way to keep many people from upgrading as I'm sure 3.1 will be the typical HO-HUM update from Apple until next June.

i'm using it right now on vacation. Really works beautifully. It's actually pretty fast considering it's through the iphone. I love it. I think it should be included with the existing data plan with a cap on downloading maybe to folks from abusing it. But for normal surfing: excellent. (using via USB with 3g connection.Wildwood,NJ)

Your happy about the tether break?

Does anyone know if the update affects O2 UK customers in the same way as AT&T customers in the US?
