iPhone Officially Gone In The UK, 3G Imminent?

Today O2 officially announced that there are no more iPhones to be had in the UK. A notice posted on O2's iPhone website simply reads "iPhone no longer available". The most obvious explanation for the lack of available iPhones is that O2 and Apple are getting ready for a change in the product line. Carphone Warehouse reported late last week that it had sold out of all iPhones as well.
Last month, a memo went out stating that the 8GB iPhone was being "end-of-life'd" in the UK. Currently, Apple's UK online store gives a 24 hour shipping time for new iPhones, although Apple likely has a higher stock to deplete. With word from O2 that all iPhones are out of stock, it seems clear that Apple will have a second-gen iPhone for customers in the UK (and everywhere else) sooner than later.
