iPhone 3G Battery Semi-Replaceable

As you know, the original iPhone's battery was extremely difficult to replace, but now it appears that Apple may have thrown us a bone on this one. It's still not easily replaceable, but iFixit's teardown revealed that the battery is now no longer soldered in place on the board. This means that while it's not officially user-replaceable yet, the process of replacing the battery will be significantly simpler. This is especially good news for those of you that enjoy DIY hardware-hackery.

Also, yes I have internet for the time being, but we've got some nasty nasty weather on the way out here so the laptop might go in the bag pretty soon now. Some crazy lightning on the way...

This is a good thing... I know I had a battery go south on me with my current iPhone and it took some time to sort it out. So definitely a good thing.

P.S. Good luck fighting the weather out there...

This is def a plus, but last time I took the back off of an iPhone, I bent it. Maybe it will be easier with the plastic ones this time around!

Yikes! How did that turn out? Did you get it bent back?

Interesting post. Something tells me that in about 18-21 months, when I once again become "upgrade eligible," there is likely to be a new iPhone that I want more than I will want to install a new battery.

this is really cool. the fact that you can buy a new battery and without too much hassle put it in yourself is awesome news. it'll be real helpful maybe after a while of use and the battery life gets worse!
