Indirectly from CES 2012: iOnRoad Announced for iPhone + Poll

Augmented reality hasn’t quite turned out to what it potentially can be for iOS, as so far we’ve only seen a few games take advantage of the technology. Picitup, a mobile app development company, plans on taking this field further in the form of iOnRoad for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad – a popular Android utility useful for drivers everywhere.
According to AppShopper, iOnRoad is en route to the iOS platform. The application utilizes the iOS camera to offer drivers useful warnings and information. Picitup has posted a video demonstrating the application’s functionality, which is embedded below:
As you can see, the app is used when driving your car; it’ll tell you how far away surrounding cars are and whether or not you’re getting too close. It’ll alert you both visually and audibly according to the developers. Similarly, the application will read any new text messages to prevent any distraction while driving. A bit like Siri, huh?
It’s an interesting idea, very popular, but I reckon that’ll be very tedious to constantly hold up your iOS device in order to see how far you are from another car in front of you. The second function, the text messages being read, I do understand. We’ll just see how well iOnRoad does when it releases onto the App Store. Regardless, it has been downloaded over 200,000 times since the time. It’s currently a free application on Android but will be paid for iOS – Picitup plans to submit it to Apple’s hands within the next few days.
