iModem Now Lets You Tether Over USB Cable

Tethering your iPhone for internet use can be a real life-saver when there's no Wi-Fi around, but for those who aren't the most tech-savy, the tinkering with proxy settings and the like can be a little too complicated. Thankfully those times may be coming to a close. Unofficial tethering app iModem has just released an update that lets you tether your iPhone via USB cable.

Previous to this, tethering apps used the iPhone's Wi-Fi capabilities to act as a Wi-Fi hotspot that was connected to the cellular data network. The new iModem is the first tethering app to change this. Instead of messing with settings, you can just connect your iPhone to your laptop through USB cable to share internet.

The new iModem requires Windows 2000, XP, or Vista 32/64 bit installed on the laptop, and is priced at US$10.

why no Mac support?!

I was so excited to hear about this, about to purchase it... then I found out its only Windows compatible. I guess I'll just have to settle for NetShare

Try pdaNET. Works great and is incredibly simple to set up. Windows didn't have as many options as Mac. I believe Mac has a half dozen or more options for tethering. I think this is the first for Windows.

I thought I would give QuickPwn a try so I could use pdaNET. Even with the simple instructions, nothing happened except an endless loop of the Apple logo and vibrating. I tried 6 times to jailbreak it and nothing happened correctly.

Too bad, too, as I would love to give pdaNET a try. Is there an alternative to QuickPwn that works better?

I've never had any issues with Pwnage Tool. Works great everytime. Also get iFuntastic. Great app and it also helps guide you through the process.

I'd rather use PDANet which is free compared to paying for iModem which doesn't even work with Macs. My only concern with these tethering apps is none currently provide WPA encryption, only WEP encryption which is really weak security.
