iFuntastic v3 Released: You now have permission to go nuts
![]()
The moment you've all been waiting for has finally arrived. iFuntastic version 3 is here, and chock full of new features. Of course, the biggest feature request of all has been fulfilled - support for PowerPC processors. It also includes a real file browser which allows installing apps, uploading NES ROMs, and other miscellaneous files. But that's just the beginning.
One of the most important new features in v3 is "Unshackling". No longer will you have to un-jail and re-jail your iPhone for every modifiaction. Once you unshackle, you're free to make any modifications you please while simultaneously maintaining iTunes' ability to access the phone. Very sweet.
The Home Screen section has been significantly updated. Just as you could in previous versions, iFuntastic allows you to rearrange the icons on your home screen, but it gets even cooler. You can now have multiple home screens with a different set of icons on each. Take that, Spaces. On top of that, you know have the ability to put backgrounds on each home screen as well as rotate them. Can you say "useful"?

Ringtones has also been updated. Remember that handy tip on getting free ringtones from iTunes? Now you can use iFuntastic to rip iTunes previews for you. Simply create a playlist of songs from the iTunes Music Store and drag the exported version into iFuntastic. The songs are downloaded from the store and uploaded right into your iPhone.
The new File Manager is awfully cool. It can be used to install new applications, save and delete files, and everything in between. iFuntastic also allows you to fiddle with system images and change the carrier logo, as you could in the past.
According to bitSplit, (summarized) changes since the last version are:
* PowerPC support! Finally. Thanks for keeping the faith :-)
* One-time unjailing - called 'Unshackling'.
* Drag and drop any file onto the phone in the new 'File Manager' (formerly Browser :-)
* Edit text files directly on the phone.
* Drag and drop installation of native applications - no restart of the phone necessary.
* Info page: a one-stop-shop for all documentation (still sparsely populated right now, sorry.)
* Troubleshooting page: a one-stop-shop for pummeling the phone and inquiring about its status.
* Much improved ringtone installation.
* Drag and drop replacement of system sounds.
* Completely reworked Home Screen Editor. Place applications anywhere you want them (gaps are OK.)
* Support for multiple home screen 'pages'. Have up to 80 applications at your fingertips!
* Custom home screen 'wallpaper', better called home screen backgrounds, to distinguish from the 'real' wallpaper.
Requirements:
- Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
- Mac OS X v10.4.10 or later
- iTunes 7.3 or later
Get iFuntastic v3.0.3 here. Big thanks to the guys at QuickShareIt for hosting the file. If you ever need to send files to someone, check out their nifty little Mac app.
Please post questions, problems, and feature requests in the Third Party Apps forum, and not in this story's comments.
Enjoy!

If you have any problems, search for "iFuntastic" in your user Library and trash everything that comes up. That seems to be the best way to solve problems.
Yeah!
Great work.
PPC is what Apple used before them moved to intel. It still doesn't work with Windows, but their will probably be work put into a windows version at some point in time.
I'm getting stuck in the last step

Well, that's not acceptable! Sorry to hear that.
What is your computer model?
You can 'Keep Trying' a few times to extend the time.
Let everyone know what works (or doesn't.)
(now we just need windows support!)

Then all you need to do is open up the package and drag the icon to your applications folder and then start it up! Just following the steps and you'll be good.

It works on PPC (POWERPC), which you have. Read the first post and it tells you that its avaliable for PPC. So it will work on any Mac now.

Also, why cant we change the dock background?

As far as the Dock Background, that shouldn't be too hard to change. Just need to find the image representing it and change it manually. I'll take a look and see if i can find the file.

I found the files and replaced them with what I want, but they wont stay... Think you can try and see if it works for you?

I use the installer.app on my phone and iFuntastic. Just install the apps you want, plug your phone in, and then the new applications show up in your applications list in iFuntastic and you can then place them where you want on your phone.
Also, no amount of rearrangement of the Home Screen seems to be working either, so the app is either buggy or a full restore really is the best way to go. I may test later, but not tonight.. at least, no plans for doing that tonight anyway.
Ppc = Power PC = Older mac processors (ex: G3, G4, G5, etc)
all my icons say stuff like mobilesms, mobiletimer, mobilenotes
in the pictures they all have normal names, mine are all messed up
anyone know about this?

Question
Windows. .
If there are anymore comments asking for a PC version, they will be deleted. Please refer to the ifuntastic Feature Request Thread for the place to post any request.

why not Windows?
Whiny Snatches
Rant's over. This is a giant step forward from 2.0 and 2.5. Minor thing: I echo the bug reported earlier that "Mobile" appears before a number of Apps on the main screen (MobileSMS, MobileCal...). I unshackled with a freshly restored OS (1.0.2 -- could that be the prob?), tried soft and hard resets. No luck. Also, is it me or do the fonts that display the name look a little watered down?
All in all, spectacular work! Huge props. Can't wait to play Mario on the train (although it's no small feat to get Mario's feet to repond to commands!)
Also, "blank/Empty" spaces are not really empty. They were replaced by a "forward -> Back to main page" application. So if you don't click on the app but on the empty space, your screen will turn black and bring you back to the main Window....
Are these being addressed? Kinda bothersome..
But other than that IT'S AWESOME, way to go.. PC people, stop complaining... Is not like there so much software already for you guys out there that isn't on the Mac..
Be patient.. it's time for us Mac users to have all the fun.. (Not like we never do)
Just go do some power point presentations or a spread sheet of how much you complain... (sorry.. had to get it out..)
