If Your iPad Battery Needs to Be Replaced, Apple Will Replace Your iPad

If your iPad battery ever needs to be replaced due to an inability to properly hold a charge, Apple will just skip replacing the battery all together. Instead, you’ll receive another (most likely refurbished) iPad for $106.95. Any unauthorized modifications or damage may void your ability to use this service.

From Apple’s support site:

“If your iPad requires service due to the battery’s diminished ability to hold an electrical charge, Apple will replace your iPad for a service fee.”

Apple inaptly calls this service “iPad Battery Replacement Service”, which could cause some confusion for customers who are expecting to receive the same iPad back with a new battery. Therefore, it is necessary to remember to backup your iPad if you ever request to have your iPad’s battery replaced.
The current MacBook and MacBook Pro lineup as well as the iPhone and iPod Touch all contain a battery that Apple will simply replace if you request the battery replacement service for any of these devices. Apple’s decision to provide an iPad exchange instead of a battery replacement certainly raises a few questions about the internal design of the iPad.
