How to Create a Free US iTunes Account Even If You Reside Elsewhere
We’ve had people ask us occasionally on Twitter how they can redeem US-only promo codes for applications when they’re residing in other countries in which those codes aren’t compatible. This leaves those users at a disability when it comes to some of our giveaways and also the new website FreeMyApps (click on from iOS device). Registering for a US iTunes account requires a credit card, but fortunately there’s a way to bypass that.
Step 1. First, you’re going to want to sign out of your iTunes account regardless of where you reside. To do so, click on your account name at the top right of the iTunes store, and click on Sign Out.
Step 2. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the iTunes store and click on your country’s flag icon in the bottom right side of the page. (Note: yours will not display the US flag like the following image.)
Step 3. Right at the top of the page, the US flag should be displayed besides the Canadian flag. Click on the US one.
Step 4. From here you’ll be directed to the home page of the iTunes store once again. At the top navigation bar, you’ll probably see more genres and categories of media – find a free application and attempt to download it.
Step 5. You’ll be prompted to enter your iTunes credentials. Instead, click on Create New Account
Step 6. Click on Continue and agree to the Terms. Now enter the required fields. Enter your desired email, etc.
Step 7. You will see multiple payment methods. At the end of the list, you will see an option that says None. Select this. (Note: the none option will not show up unless you try and download a free app like in Step 4.)
Step 8. Now you’ll have to provide an address. iTunes does check to see if this iTunes is within US borders, so you can find a bogus zip code and address to use.
Step 9. The final step in this simple process is just verifying your email address using the link sent in the confirmation email sent by Apple. Once you’ve done that, you can download [free] applications from the US App Store, use promo codes and use FreeMyApps (click on from iOS device). Enjoy!
