Google Removed Multi-Touch From Android At Apple’s Request?

Venturebeat claims to have word from an unnamed source within Google’s Android development team that Apple asked them not to include multitouch technology in their mobile OS, which Google agreed to. The source claims that Google didn’t want to strain their relationship with Apple, especially given the hints of a legal smack-down between Apple and Palm.

There has been video proof presented (like the one below) that both the Android OS and the T-Mobile G1 are capable of handling multitouch, but if we are to believe this source, Google has crippled the functionality to avoid stepping on Apple’s toes.
