Google-Made Native iPhone Apps Ready For Store Launch

Google is joining the ranks as one software developer that's highly anticipating the opening of Apple's iPhone/iPod touch App Store. Features provided by Google have been available on the iPhone since the beginning with the Google Maps app, followed by Youtube. Great as those are, don't think they're stopping there. Along with the numerous web apps they have planned, the web giant has several native apps patiently waiting. Said Vic Gundotra, Google VP of engineering, "we expect to have applications at Day One."
Of course, being the renowned web giant they are, they have several web services they want to bring to the 3.5" screen as well.
"Google has many web-based applications we would like to be available in mobile form, but we have two challenges," Gundotra said. "The mobile platform is not as technology capable as the desktop. And the mobile platform is unbelievably fragmented."
Despite the challenges involved, he says that the iPhone platform is still a huge step for the industry, largely thanks to Apple.
"Apple's leadership will benefit not just the iPhone, but will make all mobile browsers better," Gundotra said.
