Google App Prefers American Accents
Now that people in several locations have had a chance to test it’s speech-to-text abilities, a few interesting and unusual trends are being found. For example, the Google app has a North American accent bias. Users in the UK have been noticing that the app has a difficult time understanding their accents.
Google notes on their blog page that the current edition for the app has been specialized to work best with American English accents, and is only available as a default for people in the U.S. for that reason.
Yet another user who commented on Google’s blog page wrote about an unusual mistake the app keeps having for them. Kevin wrote:
“first 10-minute test and it works really well. awesome job google. only problem is every time I say the word “fish” it registers as “sex”…”
