Geohot Releases 3GS Jailbreak For Windows

In response to the Dev Team's decision to wait until OS 3.1 to release a jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS, George Hotz, aka Geohot, has released his own jailbreaking tool for the iPhone 3GS called purplera1n, as he announced on his site. Right now it's only for Windows, but he says a Mac version is next on his list. It's still in beta, and many of the comments on his website are from people experiencing issues like frozen iPhones and compatibility problems with Vista, but an equal number of comments say it works just fine.

Instructions:

To get started right now, go to purplera1n.com. Download it. Make sure you have windows(but not 7), the latest iTunes installed, and an iPhone 3GS with 3.0 firmware. Connect your iPhone normally. Click "make it ra1n". Wait. On bootup, run Freeze, the purplera1n installer app. Hopefully you'll figure out what to do from there.

You can download the hack at purplera1n.com.

make sure you run it without iTunes running or get stuck

didnt work for me :-( going to have to wait for the dev teams release

finally got it to work!!!! found out you have to be on an XP 32-bit PC. When i ran it i just got the "connect to iTunes" logo. closed purple rain then ran it again and got the purplera1n logo :-) phone restarted and all is good:-) also i left iTunes opened

i got stuck on "waiting for reboot" , then i did it again with iTunes running, no stuck. my phone is j/b-ed

super easy super fast process, no restore, no firmware reload etc, just a few seconds to finish it.

GeoHot is the still the FIRST

My friend tried to install it on vista but ran into some serious problems, afyer trying to restore the phone 5 times he finally was success full in restoring his phone to the original settings but was unsuccessful with the jailbreak. So make sure you use XP and not vista.

up and running for an evening

After one day cydia crashes constantly. Also I have found many apps are finicky with OS 3.0

I am not sure it is worth that much until Dev-Team comes through.

my 2 cents.
