Explosion at Foxconn iPad 2 Factory

One of Foxconn’s newest plants in Chengdu, China was victim to an explosion last night. Though the exact extent and cause of the explosion is unknown, there were hundreds of people inside the building when the explosion occurred.

The Wall Street Journal reports that over a dozen people have unfortunately been seriously injured. Of course, human casualties are the main concern right now.

Foxconn opened the plant, named A05, specifically for production of the iPad 2. While there are other factories within Foxconn’s corporation that manufacture the device, this may be another roadblock in meeting the strong demand.

This will likely affect iPad 2 production, but it remains to be seen how much of an impact this will have in the number that reaches shelves. According to M.I.C. Gadget, there will be a “great impact on the iPad 2 production line,” so expect delays if you were planning to buy the tablet soon.
