Developers Already Submitting Apps For OS 4.0?
A prominent developer has revealed that they have already submitted an app for approval for the upcoming iPhone OS 4.0. Apple will be holding a media event at the end of this month, and we’re pretty sure based on all the rumors that they’ll be announcing some kind of tablet, as well as iPhone OS 4.0 to run on the device and iPhone 4.0 SDK to build apps to run on the new OS. If that’s true, Apple could be giving developers a heads-up to get updates submitted ahead of the release of the new OS.
“Just wanted to give you a heads up that we’ve submitted an updated app for the new iPhone OS 4.0 software,” the developer told CNET in a recent email.
It has also been said that the reason we haven’t seen iPhone OS 4.0, or any updates to 3.0 in quite a while, is because Apple has spent that time working on iPhone OS 4.0 in anticipation of their tablet.
That said, there is a chance that it may also mean something else. If Apple really is releasing the next iPhone OS, what’s to say there won’t be a new iPhone to go with it? True, a tablet running the new OS might be enough of a hardware release to go along with the announcement, but as far as we’ve heard, it’s still called iPhone OS, and there have been a few shaky rumors of a new iPhone in the coming months instead of June as has been the case the past years. Perhaps more likely is just an announcement, as three years ago this month is when Apple announced the first iPhone.
