Dev Team Posts Cryptic Code [Update: 2.2 Baseband Is Unlocked!]
The iPhone Dev Team is set to release the results of their yellowsn0w project, a soft unlock for the iPhone 3G, on
New Year’s Day New Year’s Eve. Word is going around that it will be available for installation through Cydia. In the meantime, the team has posted a cryptic message to keep our minds occupied.
It has been deciphered by some to read vtaber_61060174_,
but no one is sure what it means. Feel free to guess in the comments.
Update: The most recent theory is that the code is telling users to ignore the Dev Team’s blog post #61060174, which was a warning to users not to update their iPhones to v2.2 in case it turned out not to be unlockable. They have updated the post to include a screenshot of an unlocked iPhone 3G with the running on an unofficial carrier’s network, confirming that they have unlocked the 2.2 baseband, and that it is safe to update your iPhone 3G if you still want to unlock it.
