Confirmed: Partfoundry Developing GPS Module For iPhone

The rumor of a TomTom GPS module for the iPhone was unfortunately quickly dispelled, but all is not lost. Engineering firm partfoundry is having a go at developing a custom, propose-built GPS module for the iPhone. The device plugs into the port at the bottom of the iPhone and delivers 16 channels of satellite reception for the software of your choice.

Being that the only apps that would be able to utilize GPS capabilities are ones not currently sanctioned by Apple, the module will require a jailbreaked iPhone. Currently the module is still a prototype, but they plan to have one finished and ready for sale by February. They’re taking orders now for $89. And don’t worry, it will have a plastic case when it ships.

Thanks to Joshua for the tip!
