Carphone Warehouse Sells Out of 16 Gigabyte Model iPhones

Over on the other side of the pond (wherein the residents refer to the Fourth of July as "Ungrateful Day"), UK retailer Carphone Warehouse has reported that it has sold out of its stock of 16 gigabyte iPhones. The news adds to wireless carrier's O2 report that both it and Carphone Warehouse have sold out of the eight gigabyte iPhone following a £100 discount offered for the handset last month.

The companies also confirmed they will not be re-stocking their shelves ahead of the launch of the new version of the device over the summer.

“Apple is believed to have stopped making the basic version of the iPhone while it puts the finishing touches to a new 3G version which could be unveiled at its Worldwide Developers' Conference in San Francisco in June,” the report adds.

UK sales are thought to have exceeded those in either Germany or France, wherein several hundred thousand units were sold.
