Belkin Issues Recall for Certain TuneBase Car Docks

Accessory maker Belkin has issued a special product recall regarding some of the company’s TuneBase car docks. The products specifically affected are the TuneBase FM with ClearScan, the TuneBase FM with Hands-Free, and the TuneBase Direct with Hands-Free. As a result of a problem with washers, versions of the docks bought on or after April 1st may produce smoke or fire when plugged into a car’s power port.

Although the danger is only said to manifest in situations of high heat, humidity or usage, Belkin says it is recalling all TuneBases produced after April 1st, 2009. The faulty hardware can also be identified through the following model numbers, which are printed directly on the docks:

  • F8Z441
  • F8Z441ea
  • F8Z442
  • F8Z442ea
  • F8Z176
  • F8Z176eaBLK

Belkin is also e-mailing prepaid UPS shipping labels to TuneBase owners who complete the recall’s web form.
