Atari Going After iPhone Game Developers

Classic game maker Atari has revved up their lawyers and are taking aim at makers of iPhone games that they feel are stepping on their legal territory. So far developer Bootant, maker of BreakClassic [App Store] and BreakTouch 3G [App Store], and Spiffyware, maker of Super Pong 2 [App Store], and Gyrocade, maker of 3D Vector Pong [App Store], were all asked to remove their apps from the App Store.

While all three cases were asked to remove their apps from the store, Spiffyware updated their blog today that they will simply be changing the name from SuperPong 2 to SuperBall 2. Similarly, Gyrocade has already changed the title of 3D Vector Pong to 3-D Vector Ball.

Amature developer Noah Witherspoon went through a similar ordeal with his #1 app Tris. He was asked to remove his app by the Tetris Company for similar reasons. Sadly, his ended poorly, resulting in it's permanent removal from the store.
