AT&T Confirms Possibility Of Low-Cost Limited Data Plans

AT&T executive Ralph de la Vega, the man in charge of their mobility and consumer business, confirmed at the Reuters Global Technology Summit in New York on Tuesday that the company is in fact contemplating offering cheaper data plans for those who don't feel they can afford the current rates.

"Right now we continue to study what is the best thing that is available, not just from an iPhone point of view, but what you can do to stimulate additional demand," said de la Vega.

He also denied rumors that AT&T is planning an iPhone plan that excludes data altogether, as the company is depending on data plans for further growth. "Our business is to sell services," he said.

He also declined to comment on the negotiations for AT&T to renew their exclusivity with Apple, saying: "We view Apple as a strategic partner for us, a very good partner to have now and into the future."
