Apple To Announce iAd Mobile Ad Platform As Soon As April 7?
According to MediaPost, Apple may introduce its “next big thing,” a personalized mobile advertising system called iAd, on April 7. Details are sketchy as only unnamed sources have suggested the new ad platform will be unveiled next week, and has been called “revolutionary” by Apple CEO Steve Jobs. Officially, Apple has been mum on the topic.
Apple only recently started exploring advertising as a business model with the acquisition of Quattro, a mobile advertising developer, for nearly $300 million back in January. While Apple currently only competes with Google in the mobile operating system business, after Google launched the Android platform to compete with the iPhone, a bold move in the advertising arena will put Apple smack dab in the middle of Google’s home turf.
