Apple Now Banning Overtly Sexual Content From App Store?

In a major revision of App Store policy, Apple has effectively banned sexually explicit content from the App Store. According to a letter received by Jon Atherton, developer of an application called Wobble iBoobs (I bet you can’t guess what it does…), Apple has removed his app from the App Store because they “have decided to remove any overtly sexual content from the App Store, which includes [his] application.”

The App Store continues to evolve, and as such, we are constantly refining our guidelines. Your application, Wobble iBoobs (Premium Uncensored), contains content that we had originally believed to be suitable for distribution. However, we have recently received numerous complaints from our customers about this type of content, and have changed our guidelines appropriately.

We have decided to remove any overtly sexual content from the App Store, which includes your application.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter. If you believe you can make the necessary changes so that Wobble iBoobs (Premium Uncensored) complies with our recent changes, we encourage you to do so and resubmit for review.

Sincerely,

iPhone App Review

While this is the only account we have of plainly telling a developer that their app was being altogether removed for sexual content, several other naughty iPhone apps have started to disappear. TechCrunch reports that apps by the name of “Exotic Positions” and “Sexy Woman” are both no longer available.
