Apple Introduces New iPod touch, Includes Physical Volume Controls, Built-In Speaker

Today during their "Let's Rock!" event in San Francisco, Apple announced a new revision to the iPod touch. The new model now features a tapered chrome back, similar to the iPhone 3G's tapered plastic back. The new unit features the same 3.5" display and now includes a built-in speaker, physical volume controls, and the ability to create "Genius Playlists" on the go.
The new iPod touch now includes the App Store as well as an improved iPod application. The new iPod app adds the new Genius feature right to the iPod touch. Additionally, the Nike+iPod jogging kit now works with the iPod touch, which includes an application for keeping track of runs. The iPod touch also includes a built-in transceiver for communicating with the Nike+iPod kit.

Apple will continue to offer three models of the iPod touch, 8GB, $229, 16GB for $299, and a 32GB for $399. All three models are available today.
In addition to the iPod touch, Apple also introduced a new set of in-ear earbuds which include a tweeter and a subwoofer. The earbuds also include a built-in microphone and integrated button for use with the iPhone. The earbuds should be available starting in October.
