Apple Hiring Dev To Help Remake Maps App, Ditching Google Maps?
According to a new job listing for an iPhone Software Engineer, Apple is looking to remake the iPhone’s Maps application. The listing is unusually specific, asking for someone to help them take the built-in app to “the next level”. The new initiative may be related to Apple’s anticipated switch from powering the Maps app with Google Maps to using Placebase, a recently acquired company noted for differentiating themselves from Google Maps with the PushPin API.
The iPhone has revolutionized the mobile industry and has changed people’s lives and we want to continue to do so. We want to take Maps to the next level, rethink how users use Maps and change the way people find things. We want to do this in a seamless, highly interactive and enjoyable way. We’ve only just started.
