Analyst: Next iPhone Might Be Powered By Nvidia Chip
Doug Freedman, an analyst with AmTech that tracks Nvidia, says he thinks the next iPhone might run on an Nvidia chip. He believes that the company is currently readying their Tegra chip for use in smartphones with operating systems other than Windows Mobile, such as the Blackberry or iPhone.
His argument is that the chip includes an on-board ultra-low power (ULP) GeForce graphics core offering OpenGL ES 2.0 3D graphics. It also supports 1080p HD output using the H.264 codec, an Apple favorite.
So far the only devices announced using the chip are “an upcoming Microsoft smartphone with a Qualcomm baseband”, as well as one from HTC.
