Analyst: Apple To Differentiate iPhones By Software

According to Yair Reiner, an analyst at Oppenheimer, Apple may be looking to offer multiple models of iPhone differentiated by software instead of hardware. He claims to have met with several Apple executives who allegedly said: “[The] iPhone is still in its early days and could gain share by: providing more functionality, lowering prices, growing geographically, or segmenting the market with different models.”
Further more, the officials said that the segmentation would be offering different models of iPhone, and that: “Segmentation would focus on software.”
This rout would supposedly make better business sense than offering iPhones with different hardware in that they wouldn't have the manufacturing cost increase of producing an iPhone with different parts.
