A Public Chat with Jailbreak Specialist ‘Comex’

Even though 19 year old Comex, otherwise known as Nicholas Allegra or as the mastermind behind JailbreakMe.com, isn’t quite allowed to reveal anything about his upcoming internship with Apple, which we previously posted about, he was kind enough to take questions publicly and answer them as well.

The jailbreak enthusiast recently picked up an internship with Apple, abandoning his website that made jailbreaking easy, dubbed JailbreakMe.com. Using Reddit, Comex hosted a public “Ask Me Anything” chat a couple of hours ago.

Many questions were asked, 203 comments to be exact, a good amount of them were answered. Here are a few I could see upon scrolling through the chat:

Q: “After your internship with Apple and after iOS 5 is officially released, will you continue to support the jailbreak community by providing exploits?”
A: “No. Edit: But I’ll want to jailbreak my phone, so I hope someone finds them :p”

Q: “The jailbreak community took a huge hit when you left. Do you think the active players can outsmart you now that you’re playing for the other team, or are you Apple’s final solution to their jailbreak problem?”
A: “There are a lot of smart people working for Apple already; maybe I can help, but I doubt I can stop people from finding exploits.”

Q: “Have you made any money from the jb scene?”
A: “I’ve made a good amount of money through donations, which is mostly being used to help pay for college. JailbreakMe 2.0 was like $40,000; 3.0 was $15,000 (not quite sure why it decreased).”

Q: “Congratulations on your new position. Why an intern position though? It seems like you could carry a regular position at apple.”
A: “I don’t know if I’d want to do that- I’ve never had a job before and I don’t know what it’s like- and I intend to go back to college soon.”

Q: “Have you ever met Steve Jobs?”
A: “I wish.”

Those above Q&As should have proved to be interested for those of you who do take a part in such discussions and take an interest in the jailbreaking community. Among the whole bunch of other answers, Comex also revealed that he thinks iOS will remain to be the dominant OS. If you want to read the whole chat, you can do so here.
