Apple Releases iPhone 2.0.1 Update

Apple has released iPhone software update version 2.0.1 and is now available for immediate download. The update adds no new features, although it does contain numerous "Bug fixes". iPhones which have been unlocked could potentially run into trouble, although we haven't received any reports yet. We recommend not updating unlocked phones until the Dev Team (or someone courageous) gives the OK. You can download the update via iTunes by connecting your iPhone and clicking on the "Check For Updates" button from the General tab.

Don't know if it's because of the update or not but now the updates portion of itunes is going crazy. I have 6 instances of AIM and several of some other apps. Has anyone else seen this?

had this before the update with some apps. Not to sure if it's iTunes or the app writers causing the problems

I've one of my three iPhones.

One went fine.

Number two is now on it's 4th restore. It will update, but hangs for an hour or more at restoring the apps etc… from backup.

Trying again as I type. The last restore didn't install the apps or anything else. Even though I keep wanting to restore from backup.

And yes. All iPhones are backed up before anything is done.

Apple? The new Microsoft of bugs.

I am now getting call failed everytime after just upgrading to 2.01. What do you suggest I do? I can still text and the internet is fine and it shows full bars for at&T and everything with the 3g sign but i cant make calls.

I tried to update it wiped everything out and when i went to use the Pwnage tool again it would not allow it bc it says "wrong firmware bundle/ipsw" , Used iTunes to restore back to 2.0 software and now having troubles with black screen hanging and not responding this is now the third restore ive attempted LOL it sucks hopefully I figure something out soon..... Anyone else?

I saw the same thing. I had 4 instances of At Bat 1.1 in iTunes. Weird.

..yes, and their phone was re-locked and unjailbroken. One would expect the unjailbroken at the very least. I'd wait until the iphone-dev team has a look.

Good god! What the heck is going on, Apple? Did Bill Gates leave Microsoft and get a consulting gig with you? I honestly don't know what's worse: MobileMe, the new iTunes, or the iPhone 2.0.1 firmware... WTF?

thats what happens when you jailbreak your iphone. Mines not jailbroken and is working fine, texting is great and everything is opening fast. great update

Just found this on the Apple discussions. It fixed my Problem.
I had my phone in "airplane" mode. From the emergency call screen, you can disable airplane mode. Then the 2.01 update works correctly.
And no, this phone was never jailbroken.

For all those new to the iPhone world and unlocking, WAIT! it is always worth your while...

I was wondering though, is there anything new in this release? it is not the turn by turn release that would be 2.1 or has Apple thrown numbering conventions to the wind?

Do it do it do it. The update is sweet this update gets the iphone close to where it was before 2.0. Apps load faster things work better. Its not perfect but its WAY better!!!

just tried updating jailbroken with 2.0.1

its not able to update ..getting error from iphone....

tried 3 times to restore ..even that is failing....

Issues solved

Un-jailbroken 2G - had emergency numbers only after update. iTunes couldn't recognise it and suggested a reset. I didn't want to wait for all that data to back up so removed it from cradle and re-booted it. Suddenly it was recognised and performed a (very quick) sync flawlessly.

Anxiety attack averted

2.0 + Pwn Jailbreak + 2.0.1

Jailbroken (via Mac) but NOT unlocked and 2.0.1 applied totally fine. Of course Cydia and such were wiped, but no full restore necessary, just a normal update, which surprised me. Contacts definitely faster, tho still not as fast as it should be.

Muahahaha You are looser! it's does not mater if you have jailbroken or not iphone, it's just that 2.0 and 2.0.1 sucks!

2.0.1 Update Issues

I originally updated to try get rid of a message tone problem I was having. Since the update the message tone problem seems to have been removed, but I can no longer sync the iPhone with iTunes! It just keeps giving me the option to restore or set up the iPhone as a new phone. I've restored 3 times now with no luck.... anyone have any solutions to this problem??? thanks

The wifes and my 3G iphone's were Jailbroken and the update went great. Dont see any changes for the better though. Still not happy with the new 3G though. I liked 1.1.4 alot better...

no caps lock with 3G, 2.01?

My new 3G does not have the same CAPS LOCK function that my 2G's all had -- that is, when you double clicked the Shift key, it would turn blue and stay locked.

I was hoping 2.01 would fix this, but no. Any ideas anyone?

2.0.1 update works fine on unlocked iPhone 3g
