2.1 Software Hints At New iPod Touch

The 2.1 firmware has already been seeded to developers, and rumors have been going around about new features hinted at in the software, like turn-by-turn GPS among other things. Now a new clue has been found that may show Apple is gearing up to release a revision of their iPod touch line.

Analysis of the iPhone OS 2.1 file structure revealed the use of a new product name. Previous to this OS, the iPod touch was referred to with the model moniker “1,1″. However, in OS 2.1, it instead references the “iPod touch2,2″, signifying that it is a second generation device. Apple hasn’t made any public announcements about a refresh of the iPod touch, but it is an interesting clue.
