Rumor: 2.2.1 To Add Push Notifications, OTA Notes Syncing?

The guys over at RussianiPhone.ru claim to have gotten their hands on iPhone Software 2.2.1 Beta 1 and say that the update adds the long awaited Push notifications promised for back in September. They also claim the update will add over-the-air MobileMe syncing with support for Notes, and included a screenshot.



Of course, the screenshot above would be pretty easy to fake so it doesn't really add much credibility to their claim. Apple also has yet to seed the 2.2.1 beta to developers, making it even less likely that they have a copy for themselves already.

BTW, I'm curious to how many people have had any major problems with Safari in 2.2? I gotta say, Safari in 2.1 crashed quite a bit for me and since 2.2 I don't think I've had any!

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing more I'd love than for this to be legit, but I have my doubts. First off, the fact that they haven't seeded FW2.2.1 ( or anything passed 2.2 for that matter) should be an indication. Secondly, it's way too early for that. Following Apple's trend of FW updates, FW2.2 is too "new" to release another so quickly. The only way I can see this being feasable is if they've gotten more than a lot of complants with bugs in FW2.2. Also, my two cents tells me that a HUGE feature like push would be aptly named FW2.3, not an extention to FW2.2(.1). Like I said before, I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it.
