Method For Re-Enabling DFU Mode In OS X 10.5.6 Found - December 19th, 2008, 10:00 PM #1 |
![]() For many Mac users, the OS X 10.5.6 update broke their ability to pwn their iPhone or iPod touch. If you're one of them, then not to worry. A fix has been found that will get you hacking again in no time. It involves an Automator script and a few simple steps. However, bear in mind that this method alters kernel extensions which could potentially render your Mac inoperable. Proceed at your own risk! To start, log in to your Mac with administrator privileges, providing the administrator password when asked. Then just follow the following steps, as follows. You can get the script at Rapidshare or Mediafire. ![]()

Looks nice, too bad it didn't work for me.
The hub/powered hub trick didn't work for me either.

I spent hours messing with this today and was finally able to find a reliable and repeatable method for using 10.5.6 to restore custom firmware files without having to swap out the kext files (which I feel is not a good method of dealing with this issue), or having to use a hub.
* Use the OS X 10.5.6 combo update. The incremental update has issues. * iPhone can be jailbroken, unlocked, and Pwned already or not. * Use PwnageTool to create your custom firmware, or if you already have your firmware created just have it create a throw away firmware file. When you get to the question "Has your iPhone been Pwned before (does it have the pineapple logo)?" Click "No". Follow the prompts to enter DFU mode. * iTunes will give error 2001. Unplug the USB cable, then plug it back in. iTunes will give a recovery mode warning. Dismiss this, press the Option key and click the Restore button in iTunes. Select your custom firmware.
