2.2 Update Issues: Internet Connectivity, Broken Apps And SIM Card Woes - November 21st, 2008, 09:38 PM #1 |
![]() Today is all about the new 2.2 software. While it does add a lot of cool new stuff, some users have reported a wide range of issues caused by the update, some more serious than others. Problems have ranged from internet connectivity and SIM card issues to applications going haywire or just not working at all. The update seems to work just fine in most cases (including my own), but some users have been having a pretty bad time by the sound of things. Apparently the update has broken some third-party applications completely due to API changes in iPhone OS 2.2. Most of the issues with these are related to CoreAudio on the device. Generally speaking, this can probably be fixed with updates from the developers. If you just can't wait, try uninstalling and re-installing the apps. Other users say their iPhone is no longer able to connect to the internet over cellular networks after the update. If you're having this, you might try switching from 3G to EDGE or whatever other network you have access to. Another issue involves the iPhone saying the SIM card is not inserted into the SIM card slot, or that a PIN lock is in place when it shouldn't be. This can sometimes be fixed by removing the SIM card and restoring the iPhone by connecting to iTunes. When this is done, re-insert the card and sync. IF you're getting the PIN lock error, try these tips. Some users in the U.S. have been getting distance measurements in the Google Maps app that are in kilometers instead of miles. A temporary solution could be selecting "USA" in the international settings. Other users have experienced trouble trying to delete email from certain accounts, especially AOL. A simple fix is goign to Settings > Mail > Contacts > Calendars > (Your account name) > Advanced > Deleted Mailbox and selecting "On My iPhone" Trash for POP or "On the Server" for IMAP. Still more have found that navigating the App Store app has been painfully slow. The best guess here is that Apple is having server-side problems and we'll just have to wait for them to sort it out. Only issue I've noticed is that street view isn't available to Canada. I confirmed as per Wikipedia that Google is still working on getting several countries such as Canada added. Hopefully we'll see at least major Canadian cities before the end of 2009.

I had absolutely no problems. Not one! So, take the knee-jerk, quasi-reporters' accounts with a grain of salt.
