Video: Dev Team Really Really Close To iPhone 3G Unlock -    #1

Some very good news from the Dev Team earlier today: they now have persistent nucleus tasks running on an iPhone 3G. What does this mean, you ask? Well, if you're looking for a technical explanation, it means they can now spawn background tasks. If you're a normal person, you just need to know that this means they are very, very close to a software unlock for the iPhone 3G. They no longer have any foreseeable obstacles. Very good news indeed. Video after the break.

Persistent Nucleus Tasks from iphonedev on Vimeo.

A list of their accomplishments thus far:

  1. Unsigned code execution on 3G baseband

  2. Reverting 01.45 baseband to previous versions

  3. Patching of static text (the AT&V demo)

  4. Injection of AT routines (the task list demo)

  5. Injection of background tasks

Now it’s on to overriding the baseband code that enforces the carrier lock.

I'd just like to use this last little bit of space in this post to remind you all of how much the Dev Team rocks. The Dev Team rocks. Rock on, Dev Team!

I would avoid making claims to "really close" or any form of progress update. Dev team is know for two things. Really good software, and non-existent schedules. Need we remember that this was released on "Sunday"
