New Apple Notebooks Break Pwnage Tool? - November 3rd, 2008, 02:00 PM #1 |
![]() It's expected that Apple would be likely to make changes to the software, and possibly hardware if need be, to thwart the jailbreaking and hacking efforts of those trying to unlock and/or otherwise modify their iPhone or iPod touch, but nobody expected them to extend that battle over into their Mac product line. Nonetheless, several users are claiming that the PwnageTool and its offspring no longer work on the new aluminum uni-body MacBook or MacBook Pro. Users over at the HowardForums and iPodTouchFans are claiming that the Pwning/jailbreaking software from the Dev Team doesn't work properly on Apple's new Mac notebook line, suggesting the company has made additions to them somehow that break the software. After further investigation on one of our own new MacBook Pros, it seems that iTunes is now ignoring an iPhone when placed in DFU mode. Because DFU is the thing that makes pwnage possible, iPhone hacking on the new hardware seems to now be disabled. [via Gizmodo]

|
It works still, it took me over an hour, i had to try it 20 times, i kept getting the 2100 error code, finally i got it to work with Quickpwn , then i restored it with a custom ipsw i had made with pwnage tool.

I believe this is a simple issue of PEBKAC (Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair)
There's nothing hardware related in the new MacBooks that would affect PWNAGE from jailbreaking the iPhone 3G. As for software the OS is running the latest version of Leopard which I have on a preexisting MacBook and have no issue with PWNAGE. I do admit it's much easier to jailbreak with QuickPWN though offers less user control. |

Sweet, that's great! I also heard that you can modify the USB driver (which I wouldn't recommend unless you REALLY know what you're doing), but why bother if something so simple works??
