Rumor: Apple To Open Refund Policy Tomorrow? [Update] - September 5th, 2007, 10:24 PM #1 |
![]() Apple's controversial decision to slash the price of the iPhone has left the many who waited to purchase the iPhone until now absolutely ecstatic, but it has also left the many, many Apple fans who devotedly rushed to the stores to purchase their iPhones feeling badly burned. Still, there may be hope for some. A couple users on the Apple Support Discussion Boards are claiming that Apple refunded the difference in cost for their iPhone. A select few users claim that, upon hearing the news that the price had been dramatically cut, they immediately wrote Apple and complained. Luckily, they had happened to have purchased their phones less than 14 days before today. This is their limit for returning products to get a full refund on. As it happens, the users who had bought the phones within that time and wrote in claim that they were refunded the difference in cost between their iPhone and the new iPhones, but only in credit to purchase something else in the Apple Store. Details are still emerging, so it's still to early to say if these claims are in fact true, so until we have proof, I'd assume they are just rumors. Still, if you purchased an iPhone recently it couldn't hurt to write them and find out. Update: Veronica Belmont claims that a friend of her's says he managed to get a $200 refund from Apple because of the difference in iPhone cost after spending an hour on the phone with them. We don't know if this is true, but if it is, it may be a good sign for those hoping to get the $200. You can see some of the discussions here, but you have to log in to their database first in order to view them. In the off-chance that you succeed in getting a credit rebate for your iPhone's difference in cost, a guy named Wilson of Monkeykit's Blog has compiled a list of 50 Apple products you can consider, including ipods, applecare plans, software, and assorted hardware items. You can view the full list at Monkeykit's Blog. [via Apple, Veronica Belmont, Monkeykit's Blog] Update: USA Today posted a Q&A with Steve Jobs and after the keynote and he stated Apple will be sticking to its 14 day return/refund policy. If a phone is older than that no rebate will be offered. That's technology. If they bought it this morning, they should go back to where they bought it and talk to them. If they bought it a month ago, well, that's what happens in technology. [Via Macrumors]

So if i was a person who sat in line at a Apple store, do you think I would have a good chance of getting one? I might give it a go tomorrow.

amex? - September 5th, 2007, 10:59 PM #5 |
|
simple: just enter a dispute online with amex, let them battle it out. takes 2 minutes. dispute the charge and say you need a 200$ refund. If even 20,000 people do this, I bet someone will notice.

the more people who call the better but i don't see anything happening
i realize apple is great for customer care and all but it just doesn't seem likely they'll just go back and give everyone $200 who bought one before. i got mine a couple weeks after launch and this really pisses me off. i thought it would at least be holiday season before the price dropped |

Dumb A** - September 5th, 2007, 11:26 PM #9 |

I'm afraid that Steve is correct. I am no dummy and I have seen the light! Good by love, Good by happiness. The world is changing and loyalty is not worth crap anymore. Technologies are moving much too quickly to fall in love with and recommending anything in the way of an Apple product to someone is a bad advice, maybe even Apple themselves as a recommendation is a bad idea from now on. This goes past Apple, but for sure all of my future purchases from Apple will get thought about for a minimum of one year now and I'll try to buy used from that point.
No way can I believe that Steve Jobs would be so blatantly rude to his customer base. I believ it is rude to sell something to some on at one price and then 2 months later sell that same thing just to say more people need to have it at a lower price. It's reeks!! I have purchase Apple Computer's going back o the Apple IIe and eat, and sleep Apple. But to here that Steve blows off his customers like that, just reminds me that it's a big, bad world out there and no one cares about much of anything but raking in the bucks. No Mas, I am free at last, free at last! There! I feel better. My loyaty for Apple is over, I will keep using Mac's because, well because it's a Mac. But as far as my purchase decisions are concerned and as far as me recommending an Apple product ever again. Ha! There's no such thing. No, I don't think I am going to effect Apple bottom-line or anything on the planet, not now, and not when I through a coke can in the trash, but I feel better, smarter. Thanks Steve....I had blinders on all this time because you always walked on the stage with a smile, and we just knew good news was coming. Not ever again, I'll watch Nancy Grace before that happens. Have as nice day! Last edited by Edward Kirk; September 6th, 2007 at 11:53 AM. |

Its true Its True!!!! - September 6th, 2007, 12:32 AM #13 |

I just went to see the apple store privacy policy and it says:
Pricing Should Apple reduce its price on any Apple-branded product within fourteen (14) calendar days of the date of purchase, you may request a refund of the difference between the price paid and the current selling price. An original purchase receipt is required, and you must request your refund within fourteen (14) calendar days of the price reduction. GO HERE http://www.apple.com/legal/sales_pol...retail_us.html |

What number do I call to complain? There are a lot there and I can't quite decipher which one is the best.
Those of you who have gotten some sort of compensation...how long have you had your phones? I bought mine on June 9th from the MOA and i plan on raising some hell. |

I bought a iPhone aprox 3 weeks ago. If I was within the 14 days I would of returned the phone today. I do belive that apple owes the people who paid an extra $200 something. At least a iTunes gift card for 150 bucks or something. I understand that prices drop and I still do love my apple products and will recomend them to everyone over dows any day but this most deffently a stab in the back of all the loyal apple buyers that purshaced the phone right away with every last penny the had. Amazing mistreatment of loyal customers - September 6th, 2007, 01:11 AM #17 |

This is a classic bonehead move by a firm that I thought had better sense.
What a way to treat those who are both the most loyal and evangelizing... This will end up costing Apple more than they could ever imagine. Not good. Bill |

I feel like I have been taken by Apple - September 6th, 2007, 01:33 AM #19 |

I feel like I have been taken by Apple. I don't like to feel like I have been taken. I will do whatever I can in the future to avoid this feeling.

In my experience Apple has always been fantastic with customer service and I know today they received a few thousand complaints about this price slash. I think it is more to do with how soon they slashed the price rather than the actual amount of discount. I think giving at least some of the money back would be the right thing to do. I am interested to see how they handle this.
