Softbank Lands Major Corporate Customer For iPhone 3G In Japan -    #1

Japanese iPhone carrier Softbank Mobile recently closed a deal with management and technology consultancy BearingPoint that will be one of the first major corporate contracts for the iPhone 3G. BearingPoint is putting 1000 iPhone 3G's into their employee's hands across the country.

The company says that they chose to adopt the device in hopes that it will improve productivity of it's consultants, giving them faster and easier access to information. Prior to this they carried a cellular data card and telephone card for PC laptops.

The deal could have a large impact on iPhone 3G sales in Japan. While the use of smartphones in the business cultures of other nations is prevalent, use of the high-tech handhelds is comparatively less common in Japan, even among enterprise users. Windows Mobile and Blackberry phones are slowly gaining popularity, but the early adoption of the iPhone by the company could show companies that it's as suitable as the more traditional smartphones.

I wonder how the iPhone adoption is going to actually work in a business environment considering its terrible battery life. I imagine they'll be rolling out external battery packs with every phone as well.
