iToner Updated To Work With iTunes 8 -    #1

For those of you who like putting custom ringtones on your iPhones, there is some good news about iTunes 8. Arstechnica reports Ambrosia Software has updated iToner to v1.0.9, adding support for iTunes 8. Of course, it does still cost $15(available here), which would buy you several ringtones in iTunes anyway. If you're not happy with that, then the GarageBand trick still works just as well.

I honestly do not understand the pont of iToner. Is it for the 10% of the Mac population who doesn't have GarageBand? It's a Mac-only app and GarageBand can already create ringtones from anything.

Anyone else stumped by the existence of this app?

To be honest im not sure what the GarageBand trick is, although I do like this app(iToner) a lot ! its very simple and the drag and drop feature is quick. I have used apps such as audacity to clip and convert ringtones in the past is that how GarageBand works? I have it but have rarely used lol

open garage band, select what song you want to make into a ring tone, and edit it in garageband(help files if you dont know how to cut the length) and then export as ringtone. thats it. and its FREE. why would you buy itoner?

You really don't get the point! You can't open an MP3 in Garage Band, which means you can't save it as a ringtone from Garage Band! The idea of iToner is that you can use real songs in MP3 format as a ringtone. Not everyone is happy with the old style MIDI sounding ringtones.

Haha i figured it was as easy as you say i just have never given it a try (do you then import it to itunes ringtones section i assume) but actually i have never paid for itoner it always has given me the "trial" option. not that big of a deal to wait a few secs to sync ringtones since i usually sync multiple files at once. but either way that gets the job done. I just had stuck with itoner since my original iPhone last sept.

WRONG, you can import an MP3 into garageband and there is an export as ringtone option. This will add it AUTOMATICALLY to itunes ringtone section. the whole process from mp3 to ringtone for me is less than 5min a song. i take a little longer so i can play with what section of the song i want as the ringtone.

that is correct, but garageband will import the newly created ringtone to itunes automatically. the longest part is deciding what part of the song you want! and YES you can import an MP3 into garageband!

There is always someone who will circumvent things. iToner is $15.00 and, I think, originally developed before the Garageband trick, so, for those of us who gave up a few Big Macs for lunch, like the convenience, since, once purchased, it is always supported. So lighten up on folks who like the application, and yea for those who do the work-around. The folks at Ambrosia have not ignored the updates and, in fact, come out with them very quickly. That is all this article is trying to point out.

itoner is great. it's simple. drag, drop, sync. it makes up for the reasonable price in the time you take doing it in other ways.

i don't know if i have garageband. i don't want it. i run logic studio for music. i'd rather have a light app like itoner for ringtones.
