Kevin Rose: iTunes 8 To Feature "Genius" Song Recommendation System, New Visualizer -    #1

Kevin Rose is at it again, this time with more details regarding the rumored release of iTunes 8. According to Rose's sources late last month, iTunes 8 will be "a true upgrade" implying that significant features will be added. He has since stated that one of the additions will be a new visualizer, which he describes as "...really trippy - there is one with planet like objects wrapping around each other w/stars/light streams". Today on his blog, Rose posts what looks like a summarized feature list from iTunes 8. The most significant is a new feature called "Genius" which is said to make playlists based on songs which go well together.

The full text reads:

What's new in iTunes 8

iTunes 8 includes Genius, which makes playlists from songs in your library that go great together. Genius also includes Genius sidebar, which recommends music from the iTunes Store that you don't already have.

With iTunes 8, browse your artists and albums visually with the new Grid view; download your favorite TV shows in HD quality from the iTunes Store; sync your media with iPod nano (4th generation), iPod classic (2nd generation), and iPod touch (2nd generation); and enjoy a stunning new music visualizer.

Rose's track record in providing information regarding upcoming Apple announcements has been shaky in the past. Although his most recent prediction of a September 9th Apple Event proved to be true, we're currently treating this information as a rumor for the time being.

Apple will be holding an event on September 9th where it has been speculated that we'll see updates to the iPod product line as well as possible additions to iTunes, including the possibility of iTunes subscriptions, and iPhone disk access.

Also, I always have the music store disabled and i hope i can disable genius just the same!

Genius sounds awesome. it's the software analyzing the song itself. not some programmer picking what he likes. :-p

-this could be inspirational to DJs... or.. negate the necessity for DJs altogether :-p

but a programmer wrote the software, and we all know the software is only as good as the programmer itself!

Besides, inst listening to music supposed to be a human job and not a computerized task. I enjoy listening to music and deciding what i like and dont like, why on earth would i want a computer program doing it for me.

its great they can make a program that does it, but does it really have a use? na, dont think so.
