Where is the SMS Message Archive in the iPhone file system? -    #1
Help! My iPhone's SMS Archive is filling up and I want to find where the messages are stored on the iPhone file system so I don't have to delete all those messages from my friends & loved ones. Any tips or help here would be much appreciated.

(Curse the SMS message limit to begin with, but that's reality for now.)

It's not a perfect solution, but the best way to back that stuff up is to download the SMS db file to your computer.

The file is located on your phone at /var/root/Library/SMS/sms.db You can't really view it on your computer, but you can make backups. When you want to view them you'd have to move it back to the phone.

Yup, that works. Thank you!

FWIW, as a relative non-hacker, I used iFuntastic to Jailbreak the phone and then iPHUC as the terminal to copy over the file.

iPhone SMS Archival -    #4
I just worked on archiving the sms messages on my iphone a few days ago.

Once you get the sms.db file from the above location, you can use the sqlite3 program to dump the messages to a text file. I wrote a simple program to convert this text file to an HTML page.

I wrote up some basic instructions at http://code.google.com/p/iphone-sms-...i/Instructions and posted the source of the small program I wrote.

Txt cut and paste? -    #6
Hello,

Am I completely missing something?

I have at least 2 issues with text messaging:

1) No prestored messages?? If i tell my wife one thing, and my girlfriend another (kidding) on a repeating basis... I have to type it every time??? WT (blank)?

2) No cut and paste withing messaging?

Can someone offer a solution?

On a happy note, I have spent a few hours with iTunes, iFuntastic, and SoundtrackPro.. made some very cool sounds for alarms and system sounds. It is a neat hack.

Bob

I haven't played around with it that much. I'd look around in the file to see if there was some sort of variable that indicated "archived" text or something. Play with the file in text edit. Move stuff around, etc

hey guys, i downloaded iFuntastic, i just want to get into the phone and get that file with the sms.

ifuntastic has some options, first you need to restore the phone. what exactly do i lose? just like an ipod? so pretty much erases all contacts/pictures?

i wonder if there is a way to get back to the phone as it is and just find the file and extract it, delete it from the phone, and start all over again.

thanks

Using iFuntastic, go to the file manager and navigate to /var/root/Library/SMS/

Download the sms.db
