AT&T Threatens Legal Action Against Company Offering iPhone-Unlocking Software -    #1
iPhone Unlocking.com, a subsidiary of UniquePhones, has issued a press release in regard to their remote software unlocking services for the iPhone. Sales are currently being temporarily postponed due to possible legal actions from AT&T.

According to the press release, UniquePhones was contacted by a legal firm claiming to be on behalf of AT&T at approximately 2:54 a.m. this morning (GMT). They are informally insinuating accusations of issues such as copyright infringement and illegal software dissemination.

They are currently seeking legal advice to try to determine the intentions of the call to find out whether this is intended to be a warning shot or a direct threat of legal action against the company. They say that there are several factors that need to be calculated. As a result, they are not able to release the software for sale at this time.

Interestingly enough, they also mention the issue of what they might do with the software should they be legally denied the right to sell it by AT&T. They add that:

"[sic] A substantial delay caused by any legal action would render the unlocking software a less valuable commodity as well as creating unforeseen security issues for the company"

I can see AT&T going after these people. AT&T is forking out a lot of money to have iPhone exclusively with them and you can be certain that they will do everything possible to protect their investment. For other phones it wouldn't be a big deal, but for something as hyped up and pricey as the iPhone is, you can bet they will do everything possible.

I dont think the sun, rain, or clouds have anything to do with this.

In english, we use weather to generalize the above mentioned, while we use whether to propose, or try to, eloquent alternate possibilities or relationships. Stick to 'if'...

Thats going to happen if they attempt to take them down. Either way, AT&T is going to lose this battle. Though, i bet Apple is getting alot of pressure from AT&T right now to make a patch that will fix the unlock. But they should know all that means is a new one will come out.
