The iPhone Dev Team has just released a new version of the PwnageTool, version 2.0.2. The new version includes an updated version of Cydia, as well as a new public beta of Installer 4. It can jailbreak iPhones running either 2.x or 1.1.4/1.1.5, the iPod touch, and now the iPhone 3G running the latest software update (although an unlock for the 3G update is still not available). A direct download is available here for newcomers here, and the suggested update method for those who already have the PwnageTool is to update through it's update option.

[Note: I tried updating my copy of the PwnageTool v2.0 just now using the internal updater (PwnageTool > Check For Updates...) and the update didn't register (it said I have the latest version), so it might not quite be up and running just yet. Let us know if it does/doesn't work for you and what you did.]

There's no word yet from the WinPwn team on when/if they will be releasing an update.

I think you have to have 2.1 pwnage tool, they said something about the internal updater not working in 2.0 pwnage so thats probably why yours didn't update. Mine automatically updated and I am currently running 2.0.1 with installer and cydia!! Thank you dev team.

My Pwnage Tool acknowledges that there is an update. Tries to install but after about a minute says update error. Clicking the stand alone link from also doesn't work. Times out.

Will this version work with a PC and not just a Mac?

Nope, sorry. This one is Mac only. WinPwn is the Windows equivalent. It's made by a different team. They haven't said when they're releasing their next version, but it usually follows some time after the PwnageTool release.

Do you mean a jailbreak for 2.1, or a jailbreak for 2.01, the iphone version that's out now? It would be cool if they had it running for 2.1, but I don't see how they could be that confident it would work for the final release.

I tried running the update tool in PwngeTool 2.0.1, which told me that updates were available but kept giving errors when trying to download and install them. I just kept trying and within a few minutes the update come through and installed without incident. I'm guessing that this is probably a reasonable issue given the volume of updates that the servers are experiencing.

My hat is off to the dev team who, once again, has come through for all of us (and to iPhonealley for providing such relevant up to date iphone news around the clock).

Pwning results in the equivalent of a restore during the process. Did you sycn it with iTunes before Pwning? If you did, then you should just be able to sync it again and it should all show up again. If not, I'm guessing your media is still in iTunes, and the App Store still remembers what apps you've downloaded, so you can download and install them again for free.

do you have to pwn this the same way... restore + update iphone to 2.1 (then of course it will be locked) and use pwnage tool...


or can i use my already hacked iphone in the pwnage tool and update it through here?

Does the WinPwn 2.0.0.3 have the cydia program with NES?

I have a 1st Generation iphone. Used the tool with firmware ver. 2.0.0 - and it worked. Then, I upgraded to firmware ver. 2.0.1 - and it worked.

I'm a little nervous about trying it on my iphone 3g. I think I'll wait to see what others say.

Anyone success on the 3g phone but you end up loosing the radio? I keep succeeding , or think I am, but then I loose the Phone and data. (guess that isn't really success...)
