Shazam - July 31st, 2008, 10:09 PM #1 |

Ever heard a song on the radio and just wished you knew the name of it? Shazam is the answer, allowing you to tag just about any recorded song in a matter of seconds. Brought to you by Shazam Entertainment Ltd., Shazam takes an audio clip from whatever you're listening to and attempts to give you full information on the song. All users need to do is hold the microphone toward the sound source and tap 'Tag Now'. The application then examines the sound source for an adjustable time frame, checks with the internet database and then displays the results. Nine times out of ten, the program will flawlessly execute its function. Shazam keeps a list of all the songs you've tagged from today, yesterday and further back. It is a convenient and exhaustive way to display previous tags. There are also options from past tags, such as Taking or Attaching photos, attaching Album Art or sharing the Tag. Some factors to avoid while attempting to tag music is overlapping songs, consistent conversation (sparse words will actually be fine), or machinery. Shazam isn't going to be able to figure out the song you're humming, either. The music must be note-for-note the same. I tried comparing an introduction of a guitar song and classical piano piece, and Shazam couldn't figure it out. Don't expect the tagging service to work on your latest Long Island find, either. If it's on the radio, though, this application will be able to tell you exactly what it is. Enjoy! |

Neat application. Was eating lunch at Wendy's when something good came on their speaker system. Wasn't sure what it was... did the Shazam thing & it found the exact song quickly. Very impressed.

I have had more fun with Shazam than any other application that I have downloaded. It just works. Cover art is off sometimes. Could not believe that it could not find the cover art for an Ozzy Osbourne song of the Black Rain Session.
It found video game soundtracks off the Kingdom Hearts game with cover art. It is a must have.

Shazam rox sox! xD One time my friends and I got bored so they stuck their iPod headphones to my iPhone's speakers and they played a bunch of songs. A few got recognized, the rest were Korean and Japanese songs that weren't very popular, so that would explain it! xP
