Google Adds Walking Directions To Google Maps, None For iPhone (Yet) -    #1

Google Maps is one of my favorite applications on the iPhone, especially now since the addition of GPS. But there's always been this one little problem I've had with it. When I'm in a big city, or even my own city at times, Google assumes that I'm driving everywhere I go. This makes directions a little... odd when I'm walking. Thankfully, they've finally added walking directions to Google Maps. Try it out, maps.google.com. Type in a 'to' and 'from' and it'll let you toggle between walking and driving directions. Pretty handy, if you ask me.

No, it's not available on the iPhone's "Maps" application, but I can't see that being the case for long.

Also allows the option of public transit.

They have some sort of metric in there too that only shows those options if appropriate. For example, Milwaukee to LAX won't show public transit or walking, while choosing a much closer destination can show transit or both depending on distance. A shame... I wanted to see how long it would take me to walk to LA ;-)

Or just use your blackberry

Google Maps for BlackBerry is a mobile mapping application that provides location-based information and services to mobile handsets with or without the use of GPS. The "My Location" function employs nearby cell towers to determine rough locations of mobile phone users so no information needs to be entered. The application also provides satellite imagery from the Google Earth service and can deliver driving--or step-by-step walking--directions with real-time traffic alerts in some 30 major U.S. cities.

wow so how much is research in motion paying you? that sounds straight out of the blackberry lit. anyway i'll doubt that you'll get anyone who has used an iPhone to switch back to anything else, but good luck with that. i'm sure walking directions for the google maps iphone app will be forthcoming.
